Large scale preparations have been made in government offices and also by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders across the country to ensure success of "Clean India Mission.”
A large number of people are also expected to take cleanliness oath today. Government officials will be administered an oath today to improve cleanliness. BJP leaders said about 30,000 people are expected to take oath at Boat Club lawns here along with Modi.
The launch was preceded by cleanliness campaign week beginning September 25 which saw central government offices being spruced up by discarding or overhauling old furniture and sending old files to record rooms.
The launch of the mission comes in the wake of a perception about Indian cities not being very clean. A number of people in rural areas still do not have access to toilets. Some schools in the rural areas also do not have toilets.
According to the 2011 Census, only 32.70 percent of rural households had access to toilets. According to a UN report released this year, India continues to have the largest number of people in the world defecating in the open.
Modi has been talking of "Clean India" in his major speeches, and most people feel that personal push being given by him to sanitation would have an impact.
Modi has said a "clean India" will be the best tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary in 2019. The Father of the Nation had a penchant for cleanliness in his personal habits and strongly promoted it in society.
Union ministers are also making efforts to sensitise their staff and people about cleanliness. Union Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan Wednesday conducted surprise check in his ministry and expressed unhappiness over cleanliness in some rooms as also loose wires in corridors and upkeep of books in library. Paswan also picked up waste papers.
Home Secretary Anil Goswami also conducted surprise inspections to check cleanliness in home ministry offices and said such inspections will continue in the future. Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani Wednesday released a handbook - Swachh Bharat Swachh Vidyalaya - to encourage hygiene and cleanliness in schools across the country.
The handbook aims at promoting behavioural change in school children so that they become agents of change in the society. Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh urged staff of his ministry to devote two hours every week as "shramdan" (labour) to achieve the goal of the mission.
A Rashtrapati Bhavan release said the president's secretariat and attached offices will remain open Oct 2 in forenoon in connection with the Swachh Bharat Mission and officials and residents will be administered the 'Cleanliness Oath'.
Academic institutions, industry associations and the corporate sector are expected to pitch in enthusiastically in the mission. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in a release said, it has launched 'Mission-Sanitation of Schools (SoS)' to strengthen the Swachh Bharat initiative.
Sumit Mazumder, president designate, CII said they will work with industry and the government to make Swachh Bharat a reality. Katrina, Deepika or Priyanka — vote for the Bollywood actress with the best hair!
No, they are not getting elected as PM but Bollywood actresses are surely competitive when it comes to who looks better than the rest. They not just make news with their acting but also with their fashion and beauty. And apart from what they wear to award functions, another thing we often notice is how they style their hair. All of them have their own stylists who make sure their mane is in perfect condition at all times. Looks like they don’t ever have a bad hair day despite the various styling tools, harsh lights, etc. But who do you think manages to look the best out of this lot? Take your pick and vote for your favourite.
Kareena Kapoor
Considered one of the most beautiful actresses in today’s time, Kareena does not experiment with her hair too much these days but still manages to look stunning. Earlier, she sported blonde highlights but it’s all black or very mild colouring these days. The actress loves to get warm oil massages every once in a while using almond, castor or olive oil. It helps her relax as well after a tedious day.
Sunny Leone
Sunny is a big fan of organic shampoos as she prefers staying away from chemicals like phosphates in her hair wash. She also massages her hair with coconut oil and leaves it overnight before washing it off in the morning. On days she has a bad hair day, she prefers covering her mane with a cap.
Deepika Padukone
She’s always in vogue for her trendy outfits but has stuck to her tried-and-tested hair formula of soft curls. Though she experiments with her hair colour often, she manages to keep it looking good at all times whether it is tied up in a bun or left open in a messy yet chic way. Deepika swears by her tender coconut hair oil massage, once every week which helps her keep them looking gorgeous and healthy.
Vidya Balan
She may have been criticised for her fashion sense but one thing she surely gets right is her long, beautiful tresses. Naturally blessed with shiny, black hair, she maintains it by regularly pampering them with herbal products and home-made hair packs. Sure works, we say!
Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka has sported several haircuts from a pixie cut to bangs, all red, and to her usual brunette, silky locks. Her secret to keep them looking gorgeous is a hot oil massage which helps her relax as well. It nourishes her mane and protects it from all the dust and harsh lights.
Sonakshi Sinha
Best known for playing the coy love interest of the leading lad in most of her movies, Sonakshi has garnered a unique fan following. She maintains a no-fuss hairstyle which looks good in every avatar. Her secret? Wash and condition hair regularly. Her solution for a bad hair day is to tie it all up in a ponytail.
Alia Bhatt
New kid on the block Alia Bhatt has already made news with her style statement. The actress loves to pamper her hair with various salon treatments and you will always find a hairbrush in her handbag. Alia knows it is vital to take care of her tresses given the amount of tension they go through with several looks and shuffles between straight hair and soft curls.
Katrina Kaif
She’s surely experimented a lot with her hair – straight, curls, wavy, coloured, natural – she’s tried them all, at times all in the same film! But Kat can carry off all of it with élan. To protect her mane from styling tools and heat, Katrina applies hair serums and leave-in conditioners. She also often gets a head massage.
Chitrangada Singh
Another fan of coconut oil, Chitrangada massages and deep-conditions her lustrous locks with it regularly. She also washes her hair thrice a week with a mild shampoo and towel dries it to avoid breakage.
Madhuri Dixit
Many won’t take their eyes off her smile and dancing but Madhuri even at 46 she has lovely hair. To keep her mane healthy, Madhuri sticks to tried-and-tested methods like oiling her hair and then using a mild shampoo and home-made conditioner. She prefers to use a mixture of olive and castor oil and make conditioners using fruits, mayonnaise, etc.
Kangana Ranaut
The actress made a splash with her lovely curls when she debuted in her first Bollywood film. Though she had to do away with her curls in a few movies, she manages to keep her tresses healthy with treatments like steaming and hot oil massages.
Bipasha Basu
The Bong bombshell has donned several hairstyles in the past and loves to keep changing her style quite often. She too is blessed with naturally healthy hair and keeps it that way with regular champi.
Jacqueline Fernandez
She loves the classic look of leaving her tresses open. She does not like tampering with them too much and sticks to basic haircare regimen of using a good shampoo and conditioner. Jacqueline loves hair masks as well and makes it a point to get one regularly.
Anuskha Sharma
She challenges us on TV saying she has absolutely no dandruff and her hair looks silky and smooth as always. The actress firmly adheres to her coconut oil massage before washing it off with a shampoo. She keeps it on for an hour at least to get that bounce in her hair.
